BODRUM

Bodrum is a charming port town with palm-lined streets, a bustling marina and great nightlife! While tourism is the major economical drive, Bodrum still retains a unique character with the plentiful restaurants and cafés and picturesque seaside setting. There are plenty of fascinating historical sites to visit in town, including the Castle of Saint Peter, the Mausoleum or the remains of the theatre. Turkey's compelling history is evident in the ancient structures as well as in the towns many museums, including the Museum of Underwater Archaeology among others. Bodrum is the perfect place to be introduced to Turkey and embark on our sailing adventure.

GULF OF GOKOVA / RESADIYE & HISARONU PENINSULAS

The Gulf of Gökova boasts idyllic scenery with it's rugged rocky coastline and mountain backdrop. This stretch of the western Mediterranean is often referred to as the 'Turquoise Coast' and for good reason! We explore the coast, dipping into the secluded coves and taking full advantage of good swimming spots and nearby beaches. Also scattered along the coast are dramatically positioned ancient sites including Knidos, at the tip of the Resadiye Peninsula, housing fantastic carvings, walls, altars, and a large amphitheatre. Along the outstretched finger of land called the Hisarönü Peninsula the beautiful coastline continues, and another set of ancient ruins can be found at its tip - Loryma.

MARMARIS AND THE SOUTHERN COAST

The lively and picturesque town of Marmaris is a hub of activity during the summer months. Similar to Bodrum, this port city is a fascinating mixture of old and new, as seen in the old part of town, its energetic market bazaar and the remains of the Marmaris Castle. The charming seaside restaurants and cafés offer extraordinary views of the azure waters and distant coastlines. Our yacht continues along the coast, taking every opportunity to swim and snorkel in the best and sometimes least-known spots. We may stop at smaller villages such as Ekincik and Göcek, both located in beautiful large bays surrounded by pine-covered mountains. More ancient sites await us along this stretch, including Caunos and Lydae, which house impressive structural remains and rock tombs. Whether it be the fascinating regional history or perhaps simply the scenery, the hidden coves and the inviting deep blue water along the rugged southern coast are sure to please.

FETHIYE

The town of Fethiye is tucked away in a corner of the Gulf of Fethiye, overlooking a beautiful bay strewn with islands. An exploration of the nearby islands and beaches will be sure to yield excellent and solitary swimming spots. The town itself boasts interesting historical ancient sites such as the Tomb of Amyntas or the Crusader Fortress. Explore the Fethiye Museum for displays of ancient archaeological remains and explanations of the mythological history which is still so evident in the area today. Fethiye will also provide shoppers the opportunity to purchase handicrafts and traditional Turkish goods.

Blue Cruise (East & West Route)
8 days Gulet Cruising

Introduction
A relaxing week to absorb the Lycian coastline with a chance to see legendary sites on shore.

The Blue Cruise
The gulet has come a long way since it first accommodated a small group of Turkish artists - two writers, a poet and a painter - on an idyllic exploration of the Aegean, half a century ago: their fishing boat offered little luxury beyond bunk beds, a toilet fitted in its fish-hold and a freshwater tank on deck. The experience was nevertheless blissful enough to capture the artists' imaginations and they dubbed it their Mavi Yolculuk - their 'Blue Cruise'. The Blue Cruise soon became a household name in Turkish coastal sailing and today's gulet provides for the comfort and safety of the modern traveller without compromising on the traditional features: the craft is still built entirely by hand from the finest hardwoods and pine, and run by an experienced captain and crew.

Our Gulets
It is a matter of pride for the crews to keep their vessels impeccably clean, functional and gleaming with varnish. Each gulet has a sundeck and fully furnished double or twin cabins - with en-suite WC/shower. There is also a salon-bar supplied with cold drinks and local wines as well as a shaded afterdeck, where meals are taken al fresco. Local specialities are prepared aboard by the gulet's own cook. Your Explore tour leader travels with you, helping to arrange walks or on-shore excursions to sites, sleepy villages and old harbours. We have designed two flexible routes providing plenty of opportunities for swimming, snorkelling and onshore sorties. Relax and unwind. Enjoy one of the world's most enchanting locations at a leisurelypace.

Eastern Mediterranean - Dreams and Dervishes in the Cyclades.

Gentle waves wash a rock-strewn beach where Greek fishermen bring their catch to shore at the end of the day. Their craggy faces are etched by long days at sea, toiling under the same sun that rose and set for eons over their ancestors…

Long ago, these islands were the landing places of an endless tide of invaders from far off lands. From ancient Phoenicia, Persia, the Peloponnesus, Imperial Rome and Constantinople they came. Followed by waves of European Crusader knights, Genoan mariners, Venetian merchants and turbanned Turkish troops of the Ottoman Empire. They stormed ashore to conquer - only to be vanquished by time and absorbed into the dry volcanic earth. All that remains are their stone ruins, ghostly shapes wrapped in myth and mystery.

Today the Cyclades are an inviting playground for pleasure seekers aboard Star Flyer. Where white-washed churches point tilted Greek crosses heavenward in skies of brilliant blue, while sun worshippers bask on the beaches under Helios' golden gaze. Twisting cobblestone alleyways lead to tavernas where octopus salad and ouzo are in order. Ancient Minoan palaces and medieval fortresses whisper tales of pagan rites and knightly rituals.

In hidden coves, Star Flyer finds harbors where pristine sands and warm crystalline waters beckon you to explore underwater grottos while beachgoers laze away under sun-blessed skies, yet another dream-like day in the mythic, magical Cyclades.

After exploring the historic Cyclades select Star Flyer sailings continue up Turkey's stunning Aegean Coast through the Dardanelles to Istanbul. The narrow Dardanelles Strait is one of the busiest shipping areas in the world and takes you to the Sea of Marmara and finally to the ancient city of Istanbul. You'll also explore nearby Dikili and the world renowned Pergamum.
