Canada - Circumnavigate Newfoundland
10 days - Wildlife, Whales and Wilderness
Introduction
Newfoundland's history and geography have been shaped by the sea. The
first European settlers eschewed the inhospitable interior and clung
to the craggy but fertile coast. The unspoiled coastline is paradise
for the naturalist. If we're lucky we may spot some of the many species
of whale which inhabit the coastal waters and see caribou, puffin colonies
and razor billed auks, to name but a few.
To the northern reaches
From the capital, St John's, we head to Bonavista Bay, pausing en route
to see the puffin colony on the cape and enjoying views of secluded
bays and mountains scoured by rivers and glaciers. Continuing northwards
we reach Fogo, once considered to be one of the four corners of the
earth! The Norse settlement at L'Anse aux Meadows is the oldest European
settlement in North America and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Gros Morne to the South Coast
At Gros Morne National Park we hope to hike in the Tablelands. The spectacular
landscape is home to moose, woodland caribou and giant Arctic hare,
as well as over 30 species of wild orchid. Heading back we visit the
French community of St Pierre, located on the islands south Newfoundland's
Burin Peninsula, before our voyage ends at St John's.

Western Canada - Bare Boat Sailing Charters
Sailing is possible for those with a little experience. With fabulous
scenery and amazing wildlife, many visiting sailors acknowledge the
cruising area between mainland Canada and Vancouver Island as one of
the world's finest and probably its best kept secret too!
The base at Coal Harbour in downtown Vancouver is just a 20-minute taxi
ride from Vancouver International Airport. The base is ideally located
in the middle of the three very diverse cruising areas: Desolation Sound,
the Gulf Islands and the San Juan Islands.
Choose from the rugged beauty of the Gulf Islands, the meandering fjords
of the Sunshine Coast or the simply breathtaking scenery and solitude
of Desolation Sound.
